This timeless album is an example of studio perfection. While studying to be an engineer, its tracks were always on repeat in my best headphones. Tracks like “One Mo’gin”, “Chicken Grease”, and the cover of the song, “Feel Like Makin’ Love” completely reordered my priorities in studio production. I can’t shout enough superlatives on this one; the beats contained in “Voodoo” are a reference point for me; the best I can think of when I imagine what I would do if I had access to the silkiest players alive. Charlie Hunter, ?uestlove, Pino Palladino, and more. Shit.

To blow this like a trumpet you dumb shit
This is a un-usual musical I conductin
You lookin at the black Warren Buffett so all critics can duck sic
I don’t care if you C. Delores Tuck-it
Or you Bill O’Reilly, you only rylin me up
For three years, they had me peein out of a cup
Now they bout to free me up, whatchu think I’m gon’ be, what?
Rehabilitated, man I still feel hatred
I’m young black and rich so they wanna strip me naked, but
You never had me like Christina Aguiler-y
But catch me down the Westside, drivin like Halle Berry
Or the FDR, in the seat of my car
Screamin out the sunroof death to y’all
You can’t kill me, I live forever through these bars
I put the wolves on ya, I put a price on your head
The whole hood’ll want ya, you startin to look like bread
I send them boys at ya, I ain’t talkin bout Feds
Nigga them body-snatchers, nigga you heard what I said

four leaves of atmospheric pads, be sure to be discreet
1 tsp tribal beat
dash of barely-legal female voice in rapture
mix well with full compression
season with reverb to taste
Makes 3-4 minutes of music.

I have listened to “Sgt. Peppers” in every phase of my life, so the quality of mixes are embedded in my ear. For that reason, I saw the opportunity to hear a contemporary Beatles-endorsed remaster as a chance to hear a fresh take on an old classic. Indeed, I was impressed. The accompanying miny documentary was an added bonus. And because I haven’t purchased an actual CD since before the war in Iraq, I saw this as an endulgance.
Well received! Import as loseless in iTunes, plug in your best headphones, and enjoy. John never sounded better!

On Thursday, I’ll be departing NYC, and arriving in San Diego.
Bardhi, a true champion, doesn’t like Them Crooked Vultures, so I had to post a video in my defense. John Paul Jones of Zeppelin fame joins Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) on drums, and Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal) as lead dude. The case isn’t made with this clip, though. I still haven’t seen them live, or heard their album in full. Regardless, this jam is the roc.

I dip, speak quicker than you ever seen
adminster pain, next the minister’s screamin your name
At your wake as I peak in, look in your casket
feelin sarcastic, “Look at him, still sleepin”
You never ready, forever petty minds stay petty
Mines thinkin longevity until I’m seventy
Livin heavenly, fuck, felony after felony, what?
Nigga ya broke, what the fuck you gon’ tell me?
