Winter Run Mix 08

Hello again, kids. Over the past three years, I have amassed a large quantity of beats, melodies, and lyrics to be used on some mysterious project in the future. Like Dr. Dre, who has refused to release an album because of relentless sonic tweaking, I have consistently put off the difficult task of compiling all this bits and pieces into an honest-to-goodness album. The time has come, however, to lift the skirt of decency and unveil my true secrets. I will release an album in the first half of 2009. Consider it my offering to the gods that killed Robert Johnson, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, and many other 27 year old icons.
But instead of having you hold your breath until that one fine day, I am going to asking for your help to pick and choose the best of the over 500 beats, rhythms, melodies, and lyrics, and be a part of the process from the beginning. If your reading this blog, I probably have a close association with you, and therefore, trust your opinion, musically or otherwise. If you were sitting right next to me, I’d ask for your feedback. Since you’re not, however, I’m going to post material to this address, and ask for your opinion; digitally. We’re all ripe brides anyway, waiting to be plucked and gathered.
So please join me in the mix.

Today…
Wednesday, July 16th, 2008Today the blogosphere is so charged, so polarized, and so filled with haters hating that it’s simply not worth it. I’d rather watch from the sidelines and be involved in a smaller, more personal, conversation. (Jason Calacanis, July 11th 2008.)

Thursday, April 17th, 2008Top Five Warm Weather Artists
Friday, April 11th, 2008
Warm weather is finally heating our cold, cold hearts in the city, and with that comes a whole new set of playlists. While winter woes cause us to wallow in depression, the springtime sunny days always allow us to wake up and remember the good things in life.

Every active listener should take the time once a year to experience an old musical friend with new ears; ears that have matured (or in my case, withered) always seem to find new points to ponder in the new soundtracks of their (previous) lives.

Here are five artists who have been creeping in every year. Pretty cliche, but relevant nonetheless.

Who’s catalog do you pillage on an annual basis?
- James Brown
- Stevie Wonder
- A Tribe Called Quest
- The Roots
- Grant Green

Obviously there’s a theme, but listen, kids, you don’t become an asshole overnight; it takes years of training!
