The latest record “New Amerykah Part One (4th World War)” from Erykah Badu sent chills down my spine this weekend. Walking around Greenpoint Saturday night, I had the chance to listen to the entire album. This sweet, lonesome woman needs to keep doing what she’s doing. Track 2 and 4 (”The Healer” and “My People”) both sweat of the late J-Dilla’s groove, and the third in the middle, “Me” is just the right mix of Roy Hargrove and bar grooves.

“Scientists, come out with your scales up!/ Get baptized in this ocean … Hip Hip is bigger than religion, Hip Hop is bigger than money, Hip Hop is bigger than the government/ This one is for Dilla - hip hop!”
